The minister of Agriculture and Rural development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has delivered equipment and seeds to the Nigerian Army Farms and Ranch in Abuja.
The handing over of the materials by the minister happened during the unveiling of the Army’s agricultural programme held in Giri- Abuja
Chief Audu Ogbeh while presenting the farm inputs, commended the Nigerian Army for its agricultural initiative
Ogbeh also assured them of the ministry’s support, he also used the occasion to encourage other institutions
To likewise follow the example of the Nigerian Army and embrace agriculture to further boost Nigeria’s current food security campaign.
AIM OF THE PROGRAMME
The programme which is the brain child of Chief of Army Staff, the Lt. Gen. Tukur Burutai is aimed at cultivating the culture of investment in the Agricultural value chain
Particularly in the officers and men of the Army and their families and also to provide jobs for the youth in the barracks
Lt.Gen Burutai says: “As at today, we have almost 1000 herds of barracks within the Nigerian Army Barracks and formations
“This is one of the many ranches scattered in all the Nigerian Army formations
“Areas such as fisheries, poultry, production of eggs and meat, greenhouses and plantation have also been established in most barracks of the Nigerian Army”.
Burutai nonetheless also commented on the prevailing farmers/herdsmen conflict, he says:
“We are tasking our Special Forces to ensure that everywhere they are deployed across the country at short notice, they stem the conflict
AREAS OF DEPLOYMENT
“We have properly deployed across Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa States within the axis where we have the conflict
“Once there is peace, the development of agriculture will thrive for the good of our country.”
